I remember one time, Debby and I werre playing with some of the boys in the neighborhood, that's all there really were that were our age, except for Kathy Lewis, and she was a bit older so didn't hang too often with us younger kids, but anyway a fight or arguement broke out between some of the other kids and me and Debra, and the one kid\ went and got his mommy...and mom came out on the porch to see what all the ruccus was and the kid said something to the affect of My mom is going to beat up your mom, lol, mom just looked at that skinny little lady and said, oh shaw...I'd mop the floor up with you....and went back to her housework...while the kid and his mom stood there in a stupor not knowing what to say or do next, so they just went home.

I remember one summer we went to West Virginia to mom's house, which was awesome, but when we got there, it was me, Eric, Debby, and Grandma Gilkeson, the upstairs windows were open. It was a long way to go back to town or to find a telephone to call police, and mom never even considered that. I remember Grandma saying when mom picked up a big ole stick "Oretha what are you doing, you better not go in there somebody might be in there" and mom said, something to the affect of "Yeah, and that's my house so they're going to be leaving if they are in there" and she marched up to that house fearless and buddy, she was prepared to clean house. Fortunately, nobody was "still" in there and I don't guess we ever did figure out how those windows got opened up. I have such great memories of spending time in the summer down on the old Gilkeson place.

Debby and I remember fondly the time mom was working in the garden, and we were supposed to be cutting the grass around the trees and bushes. But as kids will, we were goofing off...so mom noticing that we were not doing what we were supposed to be doing, said inadvertantly "I thought i told you to chop the scissors"...and Debby in all her vivacious glory exclaimed.."I can't chop scissors, but I can chop suey" , well we laughted and laughed and mom? well mom started throwing dirt clods at us...playfully I'm sure...well no, I'm not sure, lol...either way it just made us laugh more.

My heart goes out to you Eric, Hunter, Diane, Debby, Linda and all of Aunt Oretha's family. The loss is great and weighs heavy on our hearts but we need to remember she is now where she lived her lifetime to be... Heaven. She will always be with us in our hearts and memories. Everyday she awoke with the Lord and lived everyday the best she could for Him and her loved ones. She was a strong, independent woman but she needed to be losing her husband when her "children" were very young and the responsibilities became great. She considered it a pleasure and honor to be able to do so. The love she received from them and felt for them along with the strength of the Lord always saw her through - through the hardest of times which brought the happiest of times into her life. She became a part of my life 65 years ago and will remain a part my life until we are reunited in Glory. Dear family, hold tight to the love she gave you and that her love remains even stronger where she now is. She was a person of forgiveness and understanding and harbored no ill feelings towards anyone. She would never want anyone to feel the pain of her loss for very long but that each of you share in her happiness that she is now at peace. May God bless each and everyone. Love to all, Dorothy

So sorry to hear of Mrs. McClungs' passing, she will be missed. She was such a good neighbor and friend to our entire family, especially Mom, Opal. Sharing her garden goodies with us, always with a smile, such a kind soul. Eric, Deborah, Diane and extended families, you're all in our families hearts and prayers. God Bless, The Lewis'
